Khaddi Sagnia Bio

Khadijatou Victoria Sagnia was born on born 20 April 1994 in Helsingborg, Sweden.
Her mother Sutay is originally from Gambia, Africa, and moved to Sweden when she was young. Sutay gave birth to eight children, Khaddi being one of them.
Growing up in Angered, Gothenburg in Sweden, Khaddi was very much into sports. Before she started athletics, she played football, basketball, and handball. She boxed and even practiced taekwondo.
Her background in all these different sports disciplines made it easy for her when she turned her focus to long jump and triple jump.
Then in 2010, at age 16, she took part in her first youth athletic competitions at the European Youth Olympic Trials where she won a gold medal in triple jump. This win set the stage for Sagnia who became eligible to represent Sweden at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.
At the Singapore Youth Olympic Games, Khaddi set a Swedish U20 record of 13.56m to win gold. This made her proud and gave her the boost to do even more.
Sagnia followed up her victory in Singapore the following year by winning another gold medal at the IAAF World Youth Championships in Lille, France.
However, in 2012, during training, Sagnia tore her ACL in her knee and couldn’t take part in any major competitions for two years.
Khaddi Sagnia Pro Career

After being sidelined for two years, Khaddi Sagnia returned to form in 2015 and took part at the European U23 Championships in Tallinn, Estonia where she won a gold medal in Long Jump.
That same year she took part in the Beijing IAAF World Championships where she came in 5th place.
The following, 2016 was the nig stage for Khaddi Sagnia as she represented Sweden at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Olympics were a tough one for her as she only finished 16th place in the women’s Long Jump.
In 2017, Sagnia improved when she took 7th place at the IAAF World Championships in London.
2018 proved to be a better year for Sagnia as she won two medals from two regional championships; Gävle Swedish Indoor Championships and the Glasgow Müller Indoor Grand Prix.
Khaddi Sagnia followed up her success in 2018 by winning 4 Gold medals at regional competitions as well as one Silver and three Bronze medals.
In 2021, she represented Sweden again at The XXXII Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. This time, she improved as she took 7th place in the Women’s Long Jump.
2022 has been her best year so far, as she has already won three Gold medals at regional competitions such as the Müller Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham, Britain, and the Copernicus Cup in Poland.
